Our Story
Bull Mountain Veterinary Hospital was founded with a simple vision: create the kind of veterinary practice we would trust with our own animals.
For years, Dr. Jade Johnston dreamed of owning a veterinary hospital where medical decisions could always be guided by what was best for the patient and where lasting relationships with clients were just as important as excellent medicine. When the opportunity arose to build that practice in Roundup, Montana, she and her husband, Nick, knew they had found the right place to put down roots.
Today, Bull Mountain Veterinary Hospital is proud to serve Roundup and the surrounding communities with the same values that inspired its creation: providing high-quality veterinary care, treating every client with honesty and respect, and building relationships that last for generations.

Jade Johnston
Co-Owner & Veterinarian
Jade wanted to be a vet since she was 4 years old and her miniature donkey, Sage, started to colic. The vet came out and fixed her up and she knew right then she also wanted to help animals.
She went on to get her bachelor’s degree at Cal Poly in Animal Science. During that time, she and Nick started dating. He joined the Army and she started veterinary school at St. George’s University on the beautiful island of Grenada. Nick finished his time with the Army, they got married, and he moved down to be with her. It was a great life adventure! Her clinical year of vet school was completed at Kansas State University and she graduated Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2016.
Jade went on to practice as a mixed animal vet and during that time, found a love for surgery and dentistry. She truly believes that the fountain of youth for her patients is being kept lean and keeping good oral hygiene.
After welcoming two sons into their lives, Jade and Nick began to really appreciate and value time spent together as a family. Jade began to dream of owning their own hospital that could be run together as a family, where she could provide good quality, honest care to her patients in an environment that she was proud to call home. Somewhere other moms would be happy to bring their family pet.
The Johnston family moved to Roundup, Montana, seeking a quiet place to raise their boys and decided it would be the perfect place to see their dream become a reality. Thus, Bull Mountain Veterinary Hospital was born - a family-run practice where Jade and Nick are honored to provide care for your animals (and your mom’s dog too!)
Favorite movie animal: Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron
When I'm not at the hospital: You can often find me riding my horse, tending to our own menagerie of animals (horses + the world’s best pony, dogs, cats, chickens, turkeys, and whatever else Nick decided to bring home), or working in the garden - all while being followed around by our two boys!
Nick Johnston
Co-Owner & Practice Manager
Nick Johnston is the co-owner and practice manager of Bull Mountain Veterinary Hospital. A registered nurse and former U.S. Army combat medic, Nick brings years of experience in emergency medicine, leadership, and problem-solving to the day-to-day operations of the hospital. His role is simple: create an environment where the veterinary team can focus on providing outstanding medical care while every client feels welcomed, informed, and valued.
After serving in the Army, Nick spent several years working as an emergency room nurse, where he learned the importance of staying calm under pressure, communicating clearly, and helping families through some of life's most stressful moments. Those same principles guide the way Bull Mountain Veterinary Hospital cares for both pets and the people who love them.
Nick and his wife, Dr. Jade Johnston, moved to Montana to build more than a veterinary practice they came to build a life. Together with their two sons, Teddy and Hank, they enjoy spending time at their home in the Bull Mountains, improving wildlife habitat, exploring the outdoors, and embracing everything Montana has to offer.
Nick believes the best veterinary hospitals are built on more than medical expertise. They are built on trust, honest communication, and treating every client like a neighbor. That philosophy is at the heart of Bull Mountain Veterinary Hospital and the experience he hopes every family has when they walk through the front door.
